Celtic Solstice

Bonnie Hunter of quiltville.com does an annual mystery quilt.  In years past I've looked at these and thought how much I would like to do them and have always ended up deciding they looked too complicated for my skills.  Bonnie is a scrap quilter and loves small pieces - a little intimidating.  This year my sister and a friend of hers decided to do it and I have thrown my hat in as well.   The fact that Bonnie's inspiration was her trip to the International Quilt Festival in Ireland.  I went last year and have long wanted to do something to commemorate that wonderful trip.  This is the perfect thing.

To start I needed fabric - lots of fabric, lots of colors.  The first picture is stuff from my stash (my very embarrassing stash).  The second one is fabric I bought to fill in….I did need it, really!!

Step 1:  The first clue used tri-recs rulers - a whole new experience for me.  I didn't believe I could do them - but they are nearly done and they look pretty darn good.  92 orange with blue and 96 off-white/cream with blue.  I have about 50 more to go and I'll be done with step 1.

When the second clue came out this past Friday I couldn't wait to get it cut out and see how difficult it would be to put together.  It's another more challenging block, but I've done 1 and have all the fabric cut out, so I think I can, I think I can, I think I can.  I need to make 100 of these blocks.

I can't wait to see what's next!!

Table Toppers

Recently we acquired a whole bunch of 24" round tables at church.  They look great with tablecloths, but it's not always practical to use tablecloths, so in an effort to add some color I started making small table toppers - most about 16x16.  I'm pretty proud of how they turned out.
