Tuesday- Vienna

It was nice to not have to rush out for a morning tour.  We had breakfast at 8 then at 10 we headed off with Dianne and Mike, a couple from our tour group and walked to MariaTheresaplatz where there was another Christmas market.   Mike was our navigator and had a pretty good idea of where we were going, just not how far it was.  We walked the Mariahilf Strasse which is the longest shopping street in the world???  Not sure that is correct but it is several miles of shop after shop.

This is one of the more interesting modern buildings

Then, of course there are the statues and historical buildings

We even found a small Christmas market on the way.  Jackie and I finally got our Austrian pastry.

The market, when we got there, was very nice and we all found a little something to add to our bag of treasures.  We then walked back - to say that Jackie and I were tired is probably an understatement, but we made it back to the restaurant next to our hotel where we had goulash for lunch.  Not as good as what we had on our first trip two years ago, but still tasty.  When we got back to the hotel we did a google map of our walk, it was 3 miles round trip.  We were proud to have accomplished it, but tired.  We spent the afternoon relaxing and repacking.

In the evening we went to a Wine House in the Vienna Woods.  There was food, wine (I had a taste and it was good, but just a taste was enough for me), veal snitzel, ham, pork and roasted potatoes.  They also served a nice cake and ice cream for dessert.  Entertainment was an engaging local man who sang and playing accordion.  He did a great job keeping us clapping, singing and there was even a little dancing.

We originally weren't planning to do this excursion, but we are glad we did.  It was nice to spend time with the wonderful folks we have had the chance to get to know on this trip, and a nice way to say farewell.
