Day 11 - After a relaxing couple of days...back on the road

Odometer Reading:   58718
Starting Point:  Morgantown WV
Destination:  Wythville, VA
Miles driven today:  241
State Lines Crossed:  2 - WV and VA
Quilt shop stop:  1 - Morgantown, WV

We didn't take any pictures in WV - just relaxed, ate good food and watched movies (and got to see all manner of video games to boot).

We  managed to go out right before the big WVU Homecoming Game (when the traffic was light) to go to (surprise) a quilt shop, took Jackie to urgent care to see if she could get some cough medicine and Katie and I went to the grocery store to pick up things for dinner.  Josh is a great cook, so we really enjoyed sampling good vegan food.  It was really nice to spend time with them and see where they live.

After two days with Katie and Josh, we hit the road again with our next destination being Asheville, NC.  We got as far as Wythville, VA tonight - 4 hours of a 6 and a half hour drive.  That will mean that it will be a quick drive to the Biltmore Estate for our tour tomorrow.  We are definitely wearing down.  New hotels every night, lots of miles, and both of us being sick with colds at one point or another in the trip - all takes a toll.  Luckily Jackie is feeling much better which makes a world of difference since she is the driver for this odessey.

I must say that West Virginia is a beautiful state.  The hills, mountains, trees - one remarkable view after another.  I was here over 30 years ago for a month and all I remember is big mountains and darkness.  That is totally not the case this time.

We made a stop here a the New River Bridge Gorge.  We  couldn't see the river from the upper overlook, but the view was pretty anyway.  If you see the steps in the picture below - that's the only way down and back from the river level - no way either of us were going to tackle that.

Color is happening slowly - but definitely not as advanced as the northern states we visited.

Then we crossed over our 16th state line - Virginia

The views here wer beautiful as well.

We are settled for the night and will try to head out by 7:30 or 8.  We are still having issues with time getting away from us.  We were hoping to get into the hotel by 5:30, but with stops along the way and dinner before we checked in it was 7 PM again.

Tomorrow Asheville, Tuesday Nashville - Wednesday home!!
