Koblenz - December 5th

Today's excursion was a trip to Marksburg Castle.  The level was demanding and from the description we weren't sure we were up to it.  Add to that our active day before, we decided to take this opportunity to sleep in.

The ship sailed for Braubach where we picked up the excursion guests.  At 11:45 we cast off again for Rudesheim.  We enjoyed an afternoon of sailing past picturesque towns and some of the more that 40 castles high on the hills on either side of the river.  Our cruise director provided color commentary through the the afternoon.

We spent some time on the top deck in order to get clearer photos that those we would get from the Lounge.  Let's just say it was cold and windy, but I got in a couple of trips around the track and that helped keep me warm.

After all that, we went to the lounge for a cookie baking demonstration by the Chef, followed by a buffet of sweet treats that we all shared.  Jackie is already thinking about what she can add to her repertoire for next year.

Finally this evening we went for dinner that they call Dine in Rudesheim.  It was traditional German food, with a really good band playing everything from traditional German polkas to American standards.  There was also a drinking game that some participated in where there is a bar with shot glasses embedded.  Five people stand in line and apple schnapps was poured, then after a song is played and they count to five, everyone drinks.  It was particularly dicey when the five people were of different heights   There was schnapps spilled and more than a few grimaces at the taste.

We took a special tram to and from the ship which was lighted for Christmas.  It was a fun evening overall.
