Day 5 - October 2, 2018 - Alesund
Cathy and I got off the ship in Alesund for a quick morning walk with Birgitte. She did this each morning we were going to be in port long enough to do a quick walk.
After our city walk, we boarded the coach for our tour of two fjords, Geiranger and Hjorundfjorden. We left Urke and traveled through the narrow Noraangsdalen valley. Gorgeous scenery. We took the ferry across to the town of Geiranger and then up to Flydalsjuvet viewpoint. We then continued up Eagle Road, the steepest stretch of road up the mountain from Geiranger. We took another ferry from Eisdal to Linge to the village of Stordal where we stopped for a delicious bowl of fish soup. We ended the day in Alesund where we boarded our ship.
The views were amazing - and we had uncharacteristic weather in that we saw a lot of blue sky during the day. First we went from the ship to a smaller boat which took us to the dock to catch our rides
The MS Richard With - heading off to make the rest of the day's stops
From the coach we headed to the first of our ferry rides - 1 hour on Geiranger Fjord. Beautiful countryside.
Let's just say - it was cold standing on the front of the ship. luckily there was a nice lounge inside where you could enjoy the views.
I believe we went through 21 switchbacks along the drive after Geiranger
On our way to the next Fjord
The restaurant where we enjoyed a bowl of fish soup
It was a long day - over six hours on bus or ferry. It was a beautiful day though we were were glad we made the trip (except it was our third day on a bus and we were glad we didn't have a long ride the next day).
